2016/2017 School year
This term we will be learning about space and reading the story 'Whatever next'. We will be learning facts about Space, packing a healthy picnic, writing lists, ordering events and learning one more and less.
We have had a fabulous start to the school year. The children have settled into Reception well and are getting used to the different routines throughout the day.
Our first topic was looking at the story Harry and the dinosaurs. We compared our classroom to Harry's, talked about starting school-how we felt on our first day compared to now, our class rules and how to be a good friend.
2015-2016 School Year:
5th February 2016
Today we have had a very busy day of building. We had a 'girls only' day in the construction where we saw lots of masterpieces created. There were also lots of interesting creations at the junk modelling table, with children using their own ideas to build and decorate different models.
Chinese New Year
We have been celebrating Chinese New Year by reading the story 'Goldyluck and the Three Panda Bears'. The children have really enjoyed this story and spotted some similarities between this story and Goldilocks. We have also had a Chinese dragon come dancing through the classroom, tasted noodles, made a healthy stir fry to cook at home and eaten fortune cookies. The children have been busy creating shopping lists for their stir fry's, writing instructions to cook noodles, ordering the animals from the Zodiac story and making up their own dragon dances.
Friday 22nd January
We have had a very busy two weeks learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been making porridge to taste, most of us liked it but some of us weren't so keen! This week we have also thought about our favourite part of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and have produced some wonderful writing. We have been also been thinking about staying healthy and chose healthy toppings for porridge which all the children took home to have for their breakfast this morning. I am very pleased to hear that so many children enjoyed eating their healthy porridge for breakfast!
What a fabulous first week we have had back at school. The children have all started back ready to learn.
We have been looking for clues to work out who ate Miss Southwart's porridge and started reading our new story, Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
We have also been very busy outside and have started to create our garden where we will be growing lots of different plants, fruits and vegetables. So far we have planted some strawberry plants and raspberry canes, we are looking forward to them growing so that we can taste the different fruits!
Thank you to the parents who came and listened to us talk about reading today! We are really looking forward to Stay and Read starting next week and hope to see lots of you there.
As a reminder to parents it starts next Thursday (8:40-9am).
Please see a link to the powerpoint below.
Today we finished our Gruffalo topic off with our class assembly. The children have been very busy learning the story, their lines and the Gruffalo song. I would like to say a huge Thank you to all the parents, carers and relatives that came to watch our assembly. Well done Reception you were all fantastic!!
Stay and Play:
Stay and play will be starting on Monday mornings from 8.40 till 9.00. This will give you the chance to spend time playing with your child in school, taking part in some of the activities we will be doing over the school week, as well as the time to look at your child's learning journey.
!9th September 2015
With the rugby world cup starting, we decided to spend a day learning about rugby and the world cup. We were lucky to have some coaches come into school and have a session of tag rugby. It was a fantastic session and the children all really enjoyed themselves.
