Welcome to Year 1!
The Year 1 teachers are Miss Bamkin (Mon-Weds) and Mrs Bryans (Weds-Fri).
The Year 1 teaching assistants are Mrs Kimberlin and Miss Varia.
In Year 1 we always try to be honest, friendly and well-behaved, which helps us to learn to the best of
In Literacy we love learning from story books. We will be retelling stories, writing our own stories, and developing our writing skills. We will do a phonics session every day to help us with our spelling and reading.
In Maths we will be learning many things, including how to add, subtract, count on using numbers to 100 and beyond, tell the time, find the different values of coins, shape, measure and much more.
In Year 1 we have P.E. on Mondays and Fridays. Children do need correct kit: black shorts, white t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers. Earrings should be removed (unless very recently pierced). PE kits should be kept in a drawstring bag (not a rucksack) as these are stored easier on the children's pegs.
It is helpful if book bags are brought to school every day as children often have letters to bring home and although books are usually changed on a Tuesday, children may also be heard to read during the week.
Homework is given out at the start of each half term as a grid where children can choose one activity per week to complete. Homework books need to be in on a Wednesday to be marked. In addition to their weekly homework activity, children must read at home as much as possible throughout the week and practice their spellings.
