Supporting Children at Home
At home please encourage children to:
- Talk about what they see, feel and experience at home and at school.
- Use the toilet independently, washing and drying hands.
- Dress and undress independently.
- Use a knife and fork independently.
- Draw circles, lines and shapes and then simple pictures.
- Count forwards and backwards to 10 and beyond.
- Talk about shapes and patterns that they can see at home.
- Talk about and compare the size of objects around the home.
- Share books as often as possible. Talk about the pictures and point out the first sounds in words.
- Play games like 'I spy' and listen to the first sounds in words.
- Use scissors to cut along lines.
- Sing songs and make music
- Hold a pencil/crayon/paintbrush and make marks or copy the letters in their name.
- Last but not least, have fun!!
